1. Who ordered the construction of the Opera?

The construction of the Opera was ordered by Napoleon III.

2. What are its various Architectural styles?

A mixture of architectural styles were used in its design, including Renaissance, Baroque and Classical styles.

3. What are the purpose of the large ramp on the West side of the Opera?

A large ramp was built there so that the Emperor could drive directly into the main hall with his carriages.

4. Why was the completion of the Opera delayed?

The construction of the Opera was delayed by two main events, a war in the year 1870 and a fire in 1873.

Charles Garnier was the architect chosen to design the building, that’s why some people call it the Garnier Palace.
